Our service project for today was incredible. We had the opportunity to serve at a Homeless Shelter. Our morning began with worship in the Super Dome and then we headed for the shelter. When we arrived we worshiped again... with the people in the shelter. A very cool service... lots of testimonies and stories told, followed by lunch with some incredible homeless people. Stories were shared and I believe all of us were touched in ways we could not imagine! It would take too much time to write about Steve, but ask me about it and please, please pray for Steve... he is trying to change his life. After lunch we worked through out the shelter doing various projects..making beds, work in the kitchen, cleaning a warehouse, and some went out on the streets to witness to people living under the bridge by the shelter..all of us had our comfort zone stretched!
The evening session at the dome started with some food in Champion Square and a lot of rain. The dome once again had a lot of good music and some more incredible speakers....a young lady, Megan Stubbs delivered a very special message and then the main speaker, Shane Clairborne was the guy that stole the show. His message proclaiming all the injustices in the world, brought the entire dome to their feet multiple times. His message was very powerful and a lot of great humor mixed in. He was the highlight for many of our youth today at the dome....but most of the highs at small group time came from our service project. God let us hear stories most of us have never heard, let us serve where most of us have never served....and he moved through out the shelter and through out the city of New Orleans in ways He could only imagine!
The night concluded with our young people rocking and dancing at the Sheraton hotel. The dance ended and we headed back for some great small group time.... Zion parents should be proud of each and everyone of the youth on this trip. They touched lives and really made a difference today... God's Work....Their Hands
Tomorrow is Practice Discipleship day for our youth. We will be worshiping with our entire SE Minnesota Synod and spending the morning in a morning bible study. Can't wait to see what God is going to do tomorrow..... Good Night From New Orleans :)
